USAF Issues Historic Contract to PDI for 'Next Generation Small Munitions Trailers'

Updated: Aug 2, 2021

The United States Air Force (USAF) recently announced its ‘Next Generation Small Munitions Trailers’ award decision to PDI Ground Support Systems (PDI), a member company of The PDI Group. The 7-year contract award includes a maximum production quantity of 1,325 munitions trailers. The scope of work includes design, development, test and production, which includes a two-year first article period and a five-year production period that does not begin until 2024.

“We are honored to be selected by the USAF to upgrade and enhance its fleet of MHU-110 and MHU-141 munitions trailers,” said Nathan Haber, PDI’s vice president of sales and business development. “With this selection, PDI remains the design and manufacturing leader of flight line weapons handling systems, not only domestically, but throughout the world.”

“This is a pivotal moment in our Company’s history as it provides us with the foundation to execute on our acquisition growth strategy,” added Irwin Haber, PDI’s longtime president and CEO. “We are committed to acquiring other companies that operate within the defense and aerospace sector in order to further diversify our product portfolio.”

The Next Generation MHU-110 and MHU-141 Munitions Trailers – which will now be categorized as “MHU-V2” – are used to carry, transport and store air-to-ground and air-to-air weapons systems at and near the flight line. The design enhancements to these munitions trailers will provide greater operational efficiencies and lower the total cost of ownership to the USAF and allied air forces.

To date, PDI has produced and delivered approximately 3,000 munitions trailers to air forces in 48 countries.

Member companies of The PDI Group design and manufacture innovative weapons and aircraft support equipment used by air forces and navies worldwide. For more information, please visit www.thepdigroup.com.
